Where can I get Omlet Chat?

How do I find people to chat with?

You can chat with others on Omlet by inviting any of your friends from your address book, email contact list, or Facebook friends based on which sign up method you used. You can learn more about connecting your various contact lists here.

In addition we have introduced a new contact method using your “Omlet ID”. You can create an Omlet ID by going to “Settings” and then tapping “Identities” and “Create and Omlet ID”. Once you have created an Omlet ID your friends or anyone you choose to tell can search for this unique name to instantly start a chat with you.

Why haven’t I recieved a verification email or SMS pin?

If you have not received a verification email please make sure you have typed in the address correctly on sign up and check your spam folder to make sure the email did not get stopped there. If you still haven’t received a message reach out to us using the feedback button in the left main menu. We will set you up!

For SMS pin there are particular rules that our services need to abide by. For example if you are located in India we can only contact you between the hours of 9a.m. and 9p.m. In addition if your number is on the national do not contact list we cannot legally contact you and you will need to get in touch with your cell service provider to resolve the issue. We are working to improve this and you may sign in with email and Facebook in the meantime.

If none of the above are an issue and you still haven’t received an SMS pin after several hours please reach out to us!

How do I use Omlet?

Omlet has a wide range of features to make your chat experience as expressive and useful as possible. You can learn about everything Omlet has to offer in our tips video here.

What is Omlet?

Omlet Chat is a messaging service like text or other chat apps, but what sets us apart is our wide range of social features to make chatting with groups and friends more fun and creative. For example we offer a chat location feature called “Broadcast” to instantly start a chat at your location that others can join.

We also are the worlds first chat app to give you, the user, ownership over your data. We will not use your personal data to make money through advertising. You can learn more about our data model here.

How do I delete my account?

Deleting your account on Omlet is different from other services since we do not store any of your data past two weeks. To delete your account all you need to do is disconnect any additional accounts and log out. Your chat data will be permanently deleted after the two week window has expired and you will no longer be in our system.

To log out navigate to the left menu and tap “Settings” and then “Identities” from there you can disconnect your additional accounts and log out of the app from the button at the bottom.

How do I invite friends?

To invite friends friends navigate to the left side main menu and tap “contacts” and then “Add/Invite friends”. If your friends are not already on Omlet they will receive and invitation when you add them to a chat.

You can also invite friends from within an existing chat. Once inside the chat tap the 3 dot chat settings button in the top right corner. From there you can add members from your contact list or tap the “share button” to send an invite link via email, text or to another Omlet user. You may also manually copy the URL to send wherever you want. Once a user has downloaded the app the link will place them directly into the chat!

What is broadcast?

Broadcast is a unique feature which allows you to start a chat based on your present location. Chats started this way can be PIN protected for privacy or public to allow groups to form and chat on the fly! Once a broadcasted chat has been started it can be toggled on and off for other nearby Omlet users to find. Chats visible in this way will stay active for 4 hours after which they are removed from the map and become a regular chat.

Will Omlet ever post to my Facebook?

Nope!

How do I clear my chat history?

To clear chat history you may long press on any comment to delete it. However, if you delete another persons comment they will see in place of the comment a notification that someone has deleted it.

Omlet chats are democratic in nature meaning everyone inside a chat has equal ownership over the conversation. Because you own your data[linkdata] you may leave a chat and the data will be deleted after two weeks if you are not connected to a cloud storage service, but anyone else still in the chat will still own the data as well.

To leave a chat long press on the chat from the chat list and tap “leave”.

How many people can be in a chat?

As many friends as you want to invite!

What is pinning/unpinning contacts?

Pinning/unpinning a contact is a way to turn on or off whether a contact shows in your contact list. For example if you don’t want to see a particular contact you may unpin them and they will no longer show up in your list. Searching for them will still surface the user so you may pin them again if desired.

To unpin a contact navigate to their profile page whether in a chat or in your contact list and tap the push pin icon, the third button to the right at the top.

How do I unlike something?

You can unlike anything you have liked by long pressing the comment and tapping on unlike.

Getting Started

How do I start a chat?

To start a chat tap the chat icon in the main feed list where you will be prompted to invite a friend from your contact list or begin a chat with yourself by tapping “Start Chat” without inviting anyone.

How do I invite friends?

How do I set/change my Omlet ID?

Omlet IDs are permanent so choose wisely! You can create an Omlet ID by going to “Settings” and then tapping “Identities” and “Create and Omlet ID”. Once you have created an Omlet ID your friends or anyone you choose to tell can search for this unique name to instantly start a chat with you.

How do I add someone to an existing chat??

Adding someone to a chat is a very simple and similar process to starting a chat.

From inside a chat: Tap the chat menu 3 dot button in the top right corner. From there you can see all of the information about who is in the chat and may also invite others by tapping the “Add Members” button.

Invite link: You can also send an invite link to anyone you want to add to a chat. To do this go to the chat you wish to add a member too and tap the chat menu 3 dot button in the top right corner. From there tap the “Share” button in the right corner. This will generate a unique URL for the chat which you can copy and past to send or tap “Share this chat” to send via email, text, or another Omlet chat.

From Broadcast: If the person is nearby you may also broadcast the chat you wish them to join. If they already have Omlet they may join the chat on the spot. You can learn more about broadcast in the Top FAQ section.

How do I download more stickers?

To download more stickers open the sticker drawer inside a chat by tapping the smiley icon in the text bar. Following this tap the “+” icon in the bottom right corner which will open the sticker store. Currently our sticker packs are all free with more on the way!

How do I set my profile picture?

To set your profile picture navigate to the left main menu and tap on the Omlet circle at the top. You may choose from your gallery, search from the web, or take one on the spot with your camera!

How do I connect to cloud storage?

Since Omlet lets you own your data we do not keep anything longer than 2 weeks.[linkdata] But since you own your data you have the choice to back all of your chats to a cloud storage provider. Currently we offer 3 options with more on the way!

To connect tap on “settings” in the left side main menu, and then “Cloud Storage”. Select the storage provider of your choice and follow the login prompt. You will need to have an account already set up in order to connect.

How do I log out?

To log out tap on “Settings” in the left main menu and then tap “Identities” and tap the logout button at the bottom.
